BoS Update 03/10/2014

Postby =69.GIAP=VYA » Fri Oct 03, 2014 4:37 pm

Hi Guys.

Todays BoS update requires all players who did not purchase their game from Steam to uninstall BoS and then perform a clean install.

As I did not purchase from Steam,I will have to do this. I was wondering should I take this opportunity to change my in game nic to my chosen GIAP nic?

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168 ... age-3#dd81

Thanks

CG

I have not done this yet as I'm not sure if the update is ready at the time of writing this post (1645 GMT)

EDIT:-

Just found the answer to my question... :(

Thanks for these promising news. With the new update and the single player campaign, will we have the possibility to change the "character"/player name in game ?

No, I hope you'll have this possibility after release.

It seems the new version started a lot of discussions about the unlock feature ...

Yes MYATA the battles over the unlock feature have raged on all weekend and continue to do so.

Unlocking also affects me as I do not have a great deal of time to do this.I work 6 days a week and only get 1 day off. A poster in the BoS forum pointed out that if you go to the first campaign and select speed 16x and autopilot the mission will fly itself. The first Chapter is 10 missions and with the IL2 the 23mm and FAB250's get unlocked. In the second Chapter the 37mm, the rockets and all skins except 2 get unlocked. So thats 20 missions in total to get the IL2 fully battle prepared.

I must now go as I owe my "autopilot" many drinks and a night out all paid for by me :)

Just before I go I must add that a few of the skins are quite nice.

Hmmm, too late for me. I crashed on landing in the first mission and now I am stuck as many others till the bug is fixed.

Good news MYATA. They have already released an update to fix the mission lock out bug. Also it stops the use of the autopilot and 16x speed setting in Campaign mode (Gits!) Its a 1.4Gb update and is ready now.

I am not willing participating the discussions on the IL2 forum but I am interested in your opinion comrades.
I personally think it could be a good training tool similar to our training missions we had in IL2.
Yes, it takes some time to fly them and yes we invested 100$ to get that feature forced on us but YES, this is still the fucking best WWII Flight Sim on the market and Clod as NO real capability of creating an online campaign to compete with other squads.

awaiting your thoughts.

I think singleplayer can be a great training tool but if you're not careful you can create bad habits if you regularly fight AI pilots. None the less the quick mission builder is great for trying new things out and practicing bombing runs etc. Single-player is a integral part of the game. It's where all new players start and begin to learn and experience the most fundamental assets of a flight sim (the devs call it a game). It's without a doubt the most important part of IL2: BoS and it's future success.

All that being said I actually don't mind the unlock mechanic because it wouldn't effect me if it didn't force me to play singleplayer to get the required equipment for multiplayer. I've never been a fan of these "carrot on a stick" games and I was very upset immediately when it was first announced. What I find most frustrating is that BoS doesn't need such a system to be successful. It's such an amazingly good sim/game without this mechanic. All it needed was something RoF currently has or something simular that can be built on later. It would have kept both camps very happy.

I am in fear we haven't heard the rest of the bad news yet. I really, really do not want to be forced to do something I have zero enjoyment in doing just so I can use the things I want in MP. Just a couple of weeks ago I was really getting into BoS. My BFM was getting good and I was getting a really good feel for the game and really LOVING it. Now, I don't want to touch it because I feel like I have a job to do before I can enjoy myself and that is where the problem lays with me.

Also I'd like to mention it's a real immersion breaker not just the unlock system but how there is a lack of fundamental details of the mission your running. I could create a list but I won't bother.

I did some flying today. The challenge was to unlock all Lagg items. It takes longer as expected.
Though I learn a lot and get to know the map much better.
Everything seems to have its goods and bads.

It certainly does. I still don't think this will have a major effect on how we run as a squad in the long run. There is plenty of fun to be had and I'm going to try and ignore singleplayer for awhile and carry on with what I was doing in MP. All progress made in SP will be wiped on release anyway so I might as well save myself some frustration till later on.

I now like the SP mode. I am halfway through the 3rd Chapter and have all the unlocks for my beloved "Ilyusha", even the last 2 skins.

On my last mission I managed to kill 8 ground targets (Artillery and AAA) and RTB successfully. Only thing being all kills were with cannon, the rockets missed by a mile! Another great feature is watching the gun crews run for their lives when the Ilyusha opens fire.

But I am still liking it a lot, rockets et all :)

And this is one of the very good things of SP. By unlocking stuff you get a better base skill.
