Is it worth buying yet?

Postby =69.GIAP=ALEXEJ » Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:10 am

Hi there! :)

As I became aware that the "new" IL-2 is without russian planes and (even worse) will be distributed with Ubisoft my red pencil strike through the game title on the list.

"Ubisoft - that meant the game will be release in a preBeta phase", was my thougth, which proofed to be right, sadly.

No, this thread isn't meant to bash Ubisoft - usually it will take half a year and the game will be patched that no bugs will spoil the fun.
I wanted to spare me the nerves I lost on games like silent hunter and the furious charge against the poor hotliners...

I ask you as a interessted "maybe" buyer: Is it worth yet buying CoD or shall I wait another 6 months?

What do you think? What were your experiences? Would you buy the game now for yourself if you havn't bought it then?

Thanks for your shared thoughts. ;)

The simple answer is yes, with the upcoming patch scheduled for for sometime the month (September 23) the major bugs that made thing unplayable will be gone.
September Splash will be the first campaign we run using Clod and it is looking promising.
Like I say. As soon as the new patch is out it becomes a "Must buy"

It has been flyable since about 2 weeks after launch for those with strong graphics cards.

If youy want to fly offline campaigns forget it.

If it's online and you limit yourself to the small list of planes that are OK buy it.

It greatly depends on the graphic card. I don't remember what your computer specs are... If you're using mid range graphic card, it's not worth it. Simply no fun with graphics that stutter, lag or break up. I start it only when I hear about a new patch, and on my system the game is progressing with snail pace. Very few visible advances towards playability. I haven't tried this latest beta patch though...

With Nvidia GTX260 and a 4core AMD I run RoF with high detail on my monitor's native 1920x1080 resolution. With Clod, I cannot dream of a decent video settings. With details on minimum and resolution maxed at 1280x1024 on full screen it gets unplayable over the channel with 6 planes in the air. On my system (I'd say mid range, all other games, like Battlefield Bad Company 2, Call of Duty, Age of Conan I play to with absolutely max settings) it's not worth buying. You'd be better of spending the time you would spend on Clod frustration just on enjoying Rise of Flight and perfecting your skill in that awesome game.

To tell you the truth I am on the fence about Clod. I was dead set against it at first when I heard all the horror stories, But gluttn for punishment I bought it any way. It had been the biggest pain in my....tushka until yesterday. I came in to practice with PAVEL,STENKA and others but as always just a few mins into it, it locked-up my computer :x Well that kinda pissed me off so I tweeked my vid card just slightly and tried again I was able to fly in formation with PAVEL for about an hour and a half or so an it never gave any trouble.

Well last night for fun I started messing with my settings after about 3hrs of pulling my hair out and messing up my video settings I think I came up with a nice blend of FPS and graphics. I am stunned as to how much better it looks and I havent even installed the patch yet.(which is supposed to make it tons better) SO if you have a decent computer and vid card I say Go for it!

It seems it really depends on exact what hardware setup you have whether you will run into the worst bugs or not. I have been spared. And I like the game. I think it is a very very very nice platform to build on, and I do hope it gets built on. The stunning graphics is just one aspect of it - meaning you get depth perception in a way you don't in IL2 or even in RoF if you ask me. But what I like the most is probably the overall "feel" to the game in the way the planes are handled, the FM and physics engine and all that. It just "feels" very realistic. IL2 will seem like a toy to you once you have taken a Spit 1 for a spin in CloD. Whether you should buy it or not, I can't say. You make that decision. But I personally really like the game.
-I mean, I had fast motor cars and fast motor bikes, and when I wasn't crashing airplanes, I was crashing motor bikes. It's all part of the game.

I would say it is low end spec for CloD.

I recommend it. just buy and support these devs at least.

Why? Why aren't they supporting us, the customers? They are cashing in for a half product, it's 11 months old now, and it's still in beta phase. We, the gamers, are too lenient with developers lately. If you would have bought a computer that didn't work, you wouldn't say "oh well, it will probably work after 11 months, I'll just wait and support the shop that sold me a computer that doesn't work nonetheless".
Yes, my specs are near the low end, realistically, although again a misnomen on their part, they claim it's inside the recommended specs, with minimum graphic cards stated to be 8800 and 9800, which my card eats for dinner. According to them, the recommend a system that cannot achieve 13 fps on average with minimum settings.

Again the same comparison - Rise of Flight doesn't look any worse than CloD but it's running 10 times better. I'd rather support those developers...

Well I can say with new jobs and limited time this will be what I fly. I have it running really good. I have heard some guys get kicked at 30-45 mins but that hasnt happened to me. I have found some vid card tricks that make the game llok good but gives ME(it may not work for you) Great FRs.....Unless there are alot of planes in the area then I have seen as low as 6-12 FPS. Getting ready for Battle for Moscow or whatever thaty are going to call it.
