In light of my recent demise in the August Storm campaign I'd like to request a badge update to reflect three air kills.
The first was achieved in Mission #1:
I was flying a Tu-2 Tushka for the first time and Kolya and I were tasked with attacking Kiev. In this attack I destroyed three planes at one of the Kiev airbases but the fun started after we returned to our airfield. There was still a good time to go so I decided to see how high the Tu-2 could go. I got up to angels 7 and a Ki-46 Otsu (the twin-engined fighter/recon) wandered by and took a shot at me. I gave chase and took off his wing with an easy shot, then descended and landed safely. The Tu-2 Tushka is a great plane once you get it in the air, and I am flattered that they named it after me.
Mission #2 (in a P-63 KingCobra) had no air kills, but only one factory and six tanks that Yarick helped me find. (The P-63 cannon is a great tank killer!)
Mission #3 (also in a P-63 KingCobra) was an exciting mission with Stenka as my wingman, resulting in only one tank killed, and a "crashed" landing which was a wheels-down landing on a road in friendly territory after I ran out of gas near the end of the mission. My debrief is included in this thread: which also points out that this good "crash" landing which I survived was counted as a death in my personal statistics, though I lost no points... clearly a bug in the stats.
Mission #4 gave me two more air kills:
I was flying a lone airstart bombless P-63 KingCobra and found Boos in a Tu-2 over Kiev being chased and shot at by a Ki-46 Otsu. I shot it down and then his wingman. I later also destroyed a plane on the ground. My debrief of this mission can be found in this thread:
Mission #5 found me in a P-63 KingCobra (again) flying with Yarick and killing one tank and landing safely (after being well ventilated by AAA). No air kills.
Mission #6 was the fatal mission:
Once again in a P-63 KingCobra (getting the idea I like this plane?) with 3x 250 kg bombs and flying with Kolya in an Il-10, we approached P-H only to find an Li-2 and escort approaching the airfield there. I shot down the Li-2 (also destroying the heavy AAA it was carrying) but then was quickly overwhelmed by the escort (which Kolya later told me was four or five Ki-84s), shot and killed, so I don't get to count the Li-2 as a fourth air kill.
It was a fun run while it lasted, and with most enjoyable wingmen! Thanks for the fun!
Please update my badge to reflect three air kills.
Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous.
